Jill Soloway – creator of acclaimed Amazon series “Transparent” – reveals in an upcoming book how her own father came out to her as a transgender.

In a New Yorker excerpt from the tome posted on Sunday, Soloway recalled an unexpected phone call when her dad asked her, “Are you sitting down?” then said, “I’m coming out to you. I’m trans.”

Her dad’s new name was Carrie London, and, Soloway writes, “There was a nice woman as Nordstrom, he said, who had been helping him pick outfits for years. (Nordstrom? Did I remember him going to Nordstrom?).” But, ‘“Even though my brain was trying to jump out of my skull, I knew to listen and be present, to speak with reassuring words: ‘I hope you know that I love you forever, unconditionally.’”

Soloway said that when she was growing up, she saw her father as, “hiding out, depressed, or working,” before he came out.
